As mentioned in previous posts, it was high-time for Hazel to make the transition from crib to bed.
I wasn't totally stoked on her having free reign over her previous room,
So I decided to give Hazel's room a toddler-proof make-over
(plus we needed to free up some space for 'the kitchen').
Here is BABY Hazel's room
(these pictures were obviously taken when she was a newborn, but let's be honest, not much had changed):
and here is BIG GIRL Hazel's room:
I'm loving the shelving unit;
even better was the fact that they sell for $85 and I bought them off KSL for $35, boo-yah!:
Hazel's art station
(best idea ever, especially the little table.
No more falling off of the kitchen chairs while trying to stand up and color.
Thank you IKEA!):
The book shelves
(They're actually rain gutters and you can find the tutorial here (thanks for the idea Amanda!). I thought we would save tons by foregoing a "real" bookshelf.
I was sorely mistaken, we actually spent more money.
However, they're pretty dang cute AND Hazel can see all of her options so that hopefully we're not stuck reading 'Goofy Baby' every. single. night.):
Hazel's Christmas present
(apparently the rest of the blogging world had the same idea for their girls. I don't know about all of your girls, but Hazel is in serious love):
And here is the little goofus showing me how much she loves her "new bed"
(actually, we just set her crib mattress and springs on top of some cinder blocks, but hey, no one has to know right? That's what a bed-skirt is for right? RIGHT GUYS!? Please tell me we're not WT...):
She has done so great with her bed and hasn't gotten out of it at all... well at least not on purpose.
She did fall out a few nights ago, but no biggie compared to falling 3 feet out of her crib.
Confused by the title?
Taylor was under the impression that the week between Christmas and New Years was going to be a relaxing break.
Not so much.
I've kept him real busy as my personal contractor.
Unfortunately for him, I'm not very handy when it comes to tools.
Fortunately for me, he is.
(FYI Ladies: Taylor is also handy with the sewing machine. Click here to see the super-cute, super-comfortable 'Uglydolls' pillows he made for us for Christmas. He didn't even use a pattern.)

Stay tuned for the other little project that I've kept him busy doing.

Oh Crystal! You couldn't be white trash if you tried! Love the room. You should go into interior design, or at least come decorate my house :)
Oh How CUTE!!!! I love her room :) And I love the bookshelf too! Good work you guys
LOL! My Uncle's sweater is a play on cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. The "dickey", or fake turtle neck is not supposed to be noticeable, but he wore a black one under a white sweater. Very classy :)
Hazel's room looks great! Isn't it amazing how much stuff these little people accumulate?
Crystal I LOVE her room! Oh I think Violet and I need to come visit and check it out, so darling, I love the bookshelves, that storage unit is great! I love the picture of her on her bed just cheesin it, so darling. But the best one is of her holding the picture of Jesus. She is too funny. DEFINITELY not WT, I think we'll probably have to copy and do that for Vi one day! TOO cute I'm sure Hazel is in heaven. What a good girl not to get out of bed! When they first put Ruby in her bed she wouldn't get out and she'd yell "Come and get me! I'm ready to get out!" lol oh little girls are the best
i hope you're paying taylor for all his hard labor....at least in some kind of favors if not real $$! haha! Oh my heck i can't believe that cute little hazel is sleeping in that "big" bed!!! what a good girl to not get out of it! She's a smart one! I'm absolutely in love with the bookshelf idea....i might just have to copy it! right now the (matching :) ) kitchen is still in our living room. And, honestly, we have a "bookshelf," but it drives me crazy when it's not nicely organized in size/type/shape/backs out....format. there's the ocd coming out! totally impossible to have a toddler understand this! haha! i love that all the books are facing out and you can see them. Her art station is adorable! can we come play at your house sometime?!
ps, that taylor is pretty darn creative! i love those cute pillows!
You have such a great knack for decorating. Somehow neither of us got that gene. We're in need of serious help. What's your next project?
Hey, now I can use it on you...I'm "sew" impressed with Taylor's sewing abilities! And I just realized we bought very similar changing tables... I think it's great you just put the crib mattress on cinder blocks. Why bother with getting a bed when the girl was super ready. I really loved this post. My nieces have 3 different kitchen things and they love them still so I think it must be a little girl thing....I'm going to make it a little boy thing though ;) Maybe...?
Hazel's room is adorable. I think I am WT. If I dared to show my room you would agree. I dont even have a dresser. My radio is on the floor. You have great decorating skills! It looks just wonderful!
Love it! Zoey got a kitchen too! LOL!
what a fun project crystal, and everything turned out SOO cute! im struggling on how to do a nursery without painting.... but I GUESS if other people can make it happen, i'll manage. i cannot believe how big that little girl is getting.
and ps. can taylor give me some sewing lessons?
I love Hazel's big girl room. It looks like Hazel is in heaven, she is so cute and big. I love the rain gutter book shelves. I had to laugh that they ended up costing more than just buying a book shelve, that is what happens to me when I make something, however I don't think you could have bought something that cute.
I put your Dad and Mike to work on their Christmas vacation, and now I have a bathroom door that closes, and that is the best gift ever.
oh my goodness! how cute and how fun! i just love her new little room! I love the book shelves, so cleaver!
She is such a big girl! and so stinkin cute!
cant wait to see your other projects! what a sweet hubby!
Awesome book shelves, and I'm glad to hear that you took my advice and skipped the bed frame. Who needs it?
Now I hope you've let your husband relax this week and play Red Dead Revolver.
So cute! She looks so big in her big girl bed. Crazy. Her room is darling.
Gavin also got that kitchen for Christmas. Santa shops the Walmart special. He loves it too and I love that my boy loves it. But I didn't put the cherry stickers on it in efforts to make it seem more boyish...silly, I know.
Oh Crystal! I'm not just saying this to say it, but I really love what you've done to her room. I might just copy it when that day comes for us. I've never been a creative person on my own, I've always copied ideas from others, especially for decorating. I really really love everything. And I think the bed idea is smart. Really. You will be buying a bigger bed someday, so why buy like 5 different ones when you can just make do with that for the time being.
Hey what's the deal with the Ragnar race? Is Breanna doing it with you? Do you already have your team assembled? I'm kinda interested in it :)
Wow, I am in love with this room! Can I just say that you are so talented? What a cute idea for Hazel's books!
Tell Taylor that I've got a few projects around my house that need to be done if I could borrow him for a few hours that would be great! Hazel's room looks SO cute! And no, you are not WT- you are creative!
oh so cute!!! :O) We are waiting until Dalton's birthday to transition. But he doesnt try to climb our or anything. I'm so happy her name made the cut!! :O) We sure miss you guys! p.s. One of my resolutions is to be better at blogging.....so I'll try harder!!
Love the new upgrades in the room. I think that the rain gutters are a brilliant idea.
I can't believe that she is in a big girl bed and getting so close to turning 2!!
Thank goodness for helpful and handy husbands.
