We'd been trying to re-create
our last camping trip with friends
for two years.
Births of babies,
crazy medical school schedules,
and busy summers
really got in the way.
But,
we final nailed down a week
that everyone could make it...
Unbeknownst to us,
it just happened to be
over Labor Day Weekend.
No, we didn't get a "camp spot" per se.
No, we were not able to make a fire.
No, the babies were not always cooperative.
No, not everyone got to be there the whole time.
No, the weather was not perfect.
No, I did not have my hayfever medication for the allergy attack I had the entire trip
But,
We DID find a free camping area (in the horse trailer lot...with a lot of whinnying horses).
We DID make delicious food.
We DID laugh A LOT.
We DID have a canoe and fishing poles.
We DID enjoy the beautiful beach two days in a row.
We DID have hammocks to lounge in.
The kids DID have a fabulous time playing with each other.
I DID attempt to drive a stick shift to the "real campground" to deliver tinfoil to complete strangers; who then offered us an evening of new friends and s'mores. We were tempted until we realized leaving the kids in another campground by themselves while they slept was not such a good idea.... (Leah!)
and finally, we DID have so much fun.
Oh elusive camp trip,
this is not the last you will see of us!
