You might be asking yourself why we have a crazy contraption taped up in our bedroom window. The answer being because Utah State, in all of their infinite wisdom, decided against any sort of cooling device being installed in student housing. They then tried to redeem themselves by having approximately 10 units available for the entirety of Aggie Village to rent for an astronomical fee. Although there were a few still available when Taylor and I renewed our contract, we decided against renting one, reasoning that the summers here can't be too hot if most people go without air conditioning. Wrong! Lucky for us it seems to be one of the hottest summers on record in good ol' Cache Valley. Taylor and I suffered through two weeks of 90 degree temperatures on our top floor, which includes our bedroom. You can only imagine how ridiculous it was trying to get to sleep at night. Finally the heavens smiled upon us when in casual conversation with my visiting teaching companion, I brought up the insane heat we are having. Incredibly enough she mentioned that she used to be a teacher and she had an extra cooling unit from the school that she taught at, they however were not using it because it made the most ungodly sound when turned on. After thinking it over for about a micro-second I decided that Taylor could most likely fix the sound and we would be in for a balmy summer. Lucky for us Taylor is very handy; a roll of duct tape later and we were in business (don't even ask me how he fixed it, but he did). I can't even begin to tell you how incredible the cool air feels coming out of that little thing, but I can tell you that both Taylor and I have been a lot easier to live with since it was installed.

This is what relief looks like...

Congrats on the A/C! Life can be miserable when you're not comfortable. What were they thinking- students don't need A/C? Sometimes I wonder what people's logic is behind some things. Well, I'm glad you have a handy husband and cool air. I hope this will make the rest of your Summer great.
Oh my...no A/C? I think that sounds crazy. You know Mike and Kim are a little crazy too, they use theirs the least of anyone I know...I am pretty sure that I have had ours running full blast since May. I am so glad that you will be able to sleep better now. I too have a hard time sleeping when it is too hot. I would much rather the cold. I am glad to hear that you have survived the crazy temps. that you have been having. It is a good thing that you live right by Aggie Ice cream.
You're lucky you're married to a guy that knows how to use a roll of duct tape. He doesn't seem to have the best eye for aesthetics, but at least it works.
Megan and I will probably be there on Sunday (assuming the flights work out). Friday night might not work out for our bonfire since it is the night before Steven's wedding and there may be a family dinner. Be thinking about what other night can work.
that is what relief looks like, and what a beautiful sight!! You would never guess you would look at that window and see beauty until you suffer through heat like that!!
Hello! I am so happy for you and your new air conditioning! Thats fantastic! Well, Erik and I started a Blog, and I don't have your phone #, so I thought that maybe this was a pretty good way to tell you about it! its erikandsammy@blogspot.com. Check it out sometime! See you soon! Its only one week away!
I love AC!! Can you imagine living in a time where there was no AC? I guess you can eh! Ha!! We need to meet up and go to lunch sometime with the gals since i am in Utah now. Would love to catch up!!
who cares if there's a little duct tape showing! The a/c went out on my Jeep and i thought i was going to go crazy last week when i was in Ogden running errands...i'm not lying when i say i came home and it looked like i had peed my pants (and my back) i was sweating THAT BAD! Thank heavens for handy husbands! Way to go Taylor!
